Global Procurement Project Supports International Expansion and Growth
Vienna | Stuttgart | Munich, March 15th, 2017 –The Schlemmer Group is an internationally successful tech company that specializes in highly specific synthetic and metal solutions. The Group has decided to re-structure its purchasing organization and will now direct the purchasing activities for international production plants and buyers centrally, using a digital procurement platform. The first phase of this operation will focus on supplier relationship management, including supplier registration and calls for bids for tools and parts. The company has selected POOL4TOOL, the market leader in the field of direct procurement, as their partner in this project. POOL4TOOL managed to set up a system based on best-practice standards within a few short weeks. Read the full Case Study here.
While the Schlemmer Group has traditionally been most closely associated with the auto industry, the company is also active in many other sectors. With more than 60 locations worldwide, 30 production plants in strategic locations, and a mobile factory, the company is able to implement global strategies and be present locally for development, production and sales operations. In order to direct purchasing activities for production sites and international buyers centrally and more efficiently, the company opened the Global Supply Chain Department in Poing, in Upper Bavaria. Schlemmer chose POOL4TOOL, the market leader in direct procurement, as a partner to implement a new global purchasing platform for the Schlemmer Group.
ˮWith the increasing level of digitization in our company, it was only logical to also implement a high-performance technology solution in Procurement. With the POOL4TOOL platform, we will increase transparency within the Schlemmer Group. Our goal is to make it easy for all of our buyers across the globe to access all of the supplier information within the Group, and to see offers in different locations,” says Stefanie Schilhab, the Supply Chain Manager for the Schlemmer Group and the project leader for the procurement project. “This not only provides us with a better overview of each plant’s demands, it also allows us to collect and share our experiences with the suppliers in our different locations. This raises the efficiency of our global procurement organization to a whole new level.”
Global Implementation of Procurement Strategy
Schlemmer’s high quality standards for their own products as well as those provided by their suppliers lie at the heart of the company’s purchasing policy. In order to address and evaluate these standards early on during the supplier selection process, supplier registration has now been integrated into the procurement platform. Suppliers now enter their information online and the data is reviewed and released by the Category Managers. This allows Schlemmer to increase efficiency in supplier management by creating standardized processes that are used in all of their locations. The company was also able to implement global standards in Sourcing by creating standard templates for purchasing tools and parts. This guarantees that all of Schlemmer’s buyers in all of the company’s locations adhere to the set processes.
Schlemmer chose POOL4TOOL based on the tool’s user-friendly interface, flexible solution, and the option to make individual adjustments even after the go-live thanks to cooperation with the supply chain risk experts at riskmethods. Further activities are planned for the future. After the successful implementation of the tool at Schlemmer’s centrail location, POOL4TOOL will gradually be rolled out at other Schlemmer locations. The procurement platform will also be connected to Schlemmer’s ERP system so that additional modules can be implemented later.
